Kwankwasiyya Movement Warns Against Impeachment of Kano Deputy Governor
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has cautioned the Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State Government against any move to impeach the state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, warning that such action could deepen political divisions and undermine the mandate given by the people.
In a statement issued on Friday, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, described the impeachment process as troubling and urged political actors in the state to avoid actions that may appear politically motivated.
According to him, residents of Kano are closely monitoring the unfolding developments, with growing concerns that the move to remove the deputy governor may be driven more by political considerations than constitutional necessity.
He stressed that although the constitution grants lawmakers the authority to conduct oversight functions, impeachment remains one of the most serious powers available to the legislature and should not be used for political convenience.
“Impeachment must never be reduced to a tool for settling political disagreements or rearranging political alignments. It must be guided strictly by justice, fairness and the interest of the people,” he said.
Dr Habibu Saleh also reminded the leadership of the state that the mandate which brought the current administration to power was achieved through the collective efforts of thousands of supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement across the state.
He noted that the electoral victory that produced the present government was not the achievement of any single individual but the result of the sacrifices, loyalty and unity of supporters across the 44 local government areas of the state.
Dr Mohammed warned that actions perceived to target key figures within the administration could send the wrong signal to supporters who worked tirelessly to secure electoral success.
“Those in power must remember the collective struggle that made their success possible.
Political authority should never be used in a way that creates the impression of abandoning the alliances and loyalties that built the movement,” he said.
He further urged members of the state assembly to exercise their constitutional responsibilities with caution, fairness and independence, noting that their authority is derived directly from the people.
Dr Mohammed also warned that political actions perceived as persecution could create unnecessary tension within the state’s political environment.
He added that the Kwankwasiyya Movement remains committed to peace, democratic stability and the protection of the political mandate given by the people of Kano State.
He therefore called on all political actors to act with restraint and wisdom in order to preserve unity within the political structure that brought the current administration to power.
