Compt. Atuluku Commits to Enhancing Staff’ Welfare, Commissions Modern Canteen in PHC I

Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area I Command, have received a major welfare upgrade following the commissioning of a newly renovated canteen designed to provide a more conducive environment for meals, relaxation and improved productivity as the Service continues to prioritise the well-being of its personnel.

The facility, commissioned on Wednesday, 13 August 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was formally handed over to Messrs Angies Perception Catering and Events for professional management after a transparent selection process approved by the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters.

The event was witnessed by the Acting Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘C’, Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke, senior officers, representatives of sister security agencies, freight forwarding associations, stakeholders and members of the media.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt Area I Command, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, said the concession of the facility followed a rigorous and transparent process conducted by a six-member committee constituted to advertise the project, assess applicants and recommend the most qualified operator.

She disclosed that the successful firm emerged after practical cooking demonstrations and oral interviews, stressing that, “The entire process was conducted transparently to ensure that the Command engaged a competent operator capable of delivering quality services to our personnel.”

Comptroller Atuluku commended members of the selection committee for their professionalism and dedication throughout the exercise, while expressing appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the Service’s Management Team for their continued commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of officers across Commands.

In his remarks, the Acting Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Zonal Coordinator, Zone ‘C’, Comptroller Pascal Chibuoke, described the project as another demonstration of the Service’s resolve to invest in the welfare of its workforce, noting that improved working conditions remain critical to effective service delivery.

The Zonal Coordinator further urged officers to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper maintenance, expressing confidence that the canteen would continue to serve personnel effectively and contribute to a more conducive working environment for years to come.

Earlier, the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Administration, Tivfa Antom, expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General, the Management of the Service, the Zonal Coordinator and members of the committee for making the project a reality.
