As the world commemorates the Press Freedom Day, the Kano State Governor-elect, His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged the media owners and journalists to be steadfast on providing credible news while remaining staunch defenders of free speech in the society.
This was contained in a statement signed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor-elect H.E. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the statement, Abba Yusuf also stated that “only with credible reportage, the media can preserve its respectability as the watchdog of the society to be able to hold political office holders accountable.”
The Governor-elect in a special message appealed to all categories of leader to play their part in ensuring a free press by protecting the rights of media practitioners around the globe.
While congratulating the members of the 4th Estate of leadership on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day 2023, Engr. Abba Kabir said the incoming State Government will collaborate with the media to promote accountability and good governance through objective, fair and balanced reporting.
The Governor-elect assured media practitioners of a Kano society, under his watch, where press freedom is guaranteed especially if decency and ethics guiding the noble profession are not compromised.
