Customs Trains North-West Officers on Investigation, NCS Act 2023

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified efforts to strengthen professionalism and operational efficiency by equipping officers with advanced investigative skills and a deeper understanding of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 through a specialised capacity-building workshop for personnel across the North-West.

The two-day workshop, held from Wednesday 6 to Thursday 7 August 2026 at the Kano/Jigawa Area Command, brought together officers from the Kano/Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto/Zamfara Area Commands to enhance their knowledge of investigative procedures and the legal framework governing Customs operations.

Welcoming participants, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and his Management Team for sustaining investment in officers’ professional development, not that, “the training would strengthen the participants’ investigative competence and improve the effective application of the NCS Act 2023 in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.”

DC Adamu urged officers to maximise the opportunity by actively participating in the sessions, stressing that, “The knowledge acquired during this workshop will enhance investigative capacity and improve the effective application of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. I encourage all participants to engage fully and take advantage of the wealth of experience shared by the facilitators.”

Speaking on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, the Director of Legal Services, Smart Akande Esq, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to continuous capacity building, describing sound investigative knowledge and proper understanding of the NCS Act 2023 as indispensable to effective law enforcement and Customs administration.

According to him, “A sound understanding of investigative techniques and the provisions of the NCS Act 2023 remains essential to the effective discharge of the Service’s statutory responsibilities.”

The workshop featured technical presentations on Investigation Techniques and Investigation Procedures under the NCS Act 2023, facilitated by Akande, while Assistant Legal Adviser Egolum Uchenna delivered a comprehensive session on the Overview of the NCS Act 2023.
