National Security: Hon. Alasan Ado Doguwa’s Outcry and President Tinubu’s Swift Response

By Habib S. Umar

On the 25th of November, 2025, Hon. Alasan Ado Doguwa stood on the floor of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly and boldly challenged Nigeria’s leadership—from the Presidency to the National Assembly and all security agencies—to urgently confront the rising insecurity affecting every part of the nation: North, South, East, and West.
In his powerful address, Hon. Doguwa warned that if the federal government fails to act decisively, the National Assembly should shut down its operations until the right steps are taken. He reminded lawmakers that insecurity “has no tribe, party, or religion,” stressing that it affects every Nigerian and threatens national stability.
He also raised alarm over the surge in kidnappings across several states, including the growing danger around Falgore Forest, located within the constituency he represents in Kano State—a forest he described as a major hotspot for abductions. In recent times, very few individuals—whether inside or outside the ruling party—have shown the courage to speak truth to power the way Hon. Doguwa has done. Leaders with such boldness and sincerity deserve recognition as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, and he must be reelected to continue representing his constituents effectively.
Hon. Doguwa further criticized the poor coordination among security agencies, saying the persistent intelligence gaps have emboldened criminals nationwide. He urged the House to intensify its oversight on the security sector and insisted that Nigerians expect genuine protection, not routine statements or symbolic actions.
In a prompt and decisive response to these concerns, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a national state of emergency on security, signalling a renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability across the country. As part of the emergency measures, the President directed all security agencies to embark on massive recruitment exercises to strengthen manpower and operational capacity. The directives include:
Recruitment of an additional 20,000 personnel into the Nigeria Police Force, Recruitment of 10,000 new soldiers into the Nigerian Army and
Expansion of personnel strength within the DSS to boost intelligence operations.
These measures come at a time when the nation has witnessed multiple mass abductions. The kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi, the Niger State incident, and the abduction of worshippers in Kwara all ended recently with the victims regaining freedom. However, public concern remains high, with many believing the federal government may have negotiated with the kidnappers rather than carried out active rescue operations.
The coming months will determine whether these emergency actions will translate into real improvements in national security and restore citizens’ confidence in the government.
