The Atiku Support Organisation (ASO) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an immediate, transparent and independent investigation into the allegations surrounding the reported activities of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), warning that silence or a perfunctory response could erode public confidence in government and weaken the credibility of democratic institutions.
In a statement issued on behalf of the organisation, the Secretary-General, Muhammad Bashir, said the allegations had generated widespread public concern and raised fundamental questions about accountability, transparency and the integrity of public institutions.
The organisation aligned itself with the position earlier canvassed by its principal and the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, who has called for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the matter.
According to ASO, the demand for an independent inquiry should not be viewed through the prism of partisan politics but as a constitutional and moral obligation aimed at preserving public trust in governance.
“The credibility of any administration is measured not by its response to favourable circumstances, but by its willingness to confront difficult questions with openness, integrity and respect for due process.” He statement said.
It argued that allegations of such public significance should not be dismissed by official denials alone, insisting that only a credible and independent investigation would establish the facts and restore confidence in government institutions.
ASO further warned that failure by the Federal Government to respond decisively could create the perception that accountability is applied selectively and that certain public officials are insulated from scrutiny.
According to the organisation, such an impression would not only diminish confidence in the current administration but could also undermine the integrity of institutions established to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and public resources.
The organisation therefore urged President Tinubu to seize the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the rule of law by authorising an investigation capable of withstanding both public and judicial scrutiny.
It also called on anti-corruption agencies, law enforcement bodies and other statutory oversight institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities impartially, professionally and without fear or favour, stressing that no individual should be exempt from lawful investigation where credible allegations exist.
Beyond government, ASO appealed to civil society organisations, professional bodies, the media and Nigerians at large to continue demanding openness, institutional accountability and strict adherence to due process.
The organisation maintained that democratic institutions derive their strength from transparency and accountability, adding that governments earn lasting public confidence not by suppressing legitimate questions but by confronting them with courage, openness and fidelity to the rule of law.
