The Nigeria Customs Service, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, generated N63.07 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, while the Kano Free Trade Zone surpassed the total revenue it generated throughout 2025 within the first six months of this year.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, disclosed this on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, during a media briefing at the Customs House, Bompai, Kano, where he presented the Command’s performance report for the first half of the year.
DC Adamu said the N63.07 billion generated represented a 7.4 per cent increase over the N58.39 billion collected during the corresponding period of 2025, adding that the performance was recorded despite a decline in cargo throughput, disclosing that, “Kano FTZ generated more than N26 billion during the period, exceeding its total revenue for the whole of 2025 by about N4 billion.”
The Acting Controller said the Command’s performance was supported by improved compliance, stronger monitoring, streamlined revenue collection at border stations and enhanced cargo clearance procedures, adding that, “ ”The Command recovered about N3 billion in revenue through interventions arising from irregularities in transit operations.”
He further stated that, “The Command’s operations were also focused on protecting legitimate businesses, consumers and the wider economy from the consequences of illicit trade. He disclosed that prohibited and restricted goods with a combined Duty Paid Value of N1.71 billion were detained or seized during the period, while 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the various cases.”
According to DC Adamu, Kano Command had equally intercepted undeclared foreign currencies and other negotiable instruments at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, including 568,100 United States Dollars, 134,256 Saudi Riyals, 28 Chinese Yuan, 20 Ghana Cedis and 35 kilogrammes of silver bars valued at N175 million.
The CAC further highlighted how the Command introduced an end-to-end transit dispatch system and developed a real-time dashboard for monitoring revenue generation, while also sustaining intelligence-led surveillance and stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
DC Adamu attributed the achievements to the strategic leadership and reforms of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and his Management Team, assuring stakeholders that the Command would sustain its focus on revenue generation, legitimate trade, compliance and economic protection in the second half of the year.
