ARTV Cameraman Recounts Assault, Public Humiliation by Kano Official Rogo.

A respected cameraman with Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) Kano, Madi’u Adamu, has narrated how he was allegedly attacked and publicly insulted by Auwal Sani Rogo, Senior Special Reporter to the Kano State Government, during the independence Anniversary Celebration Day held in Kano.

Speaking on the incident, Mr. Adamu alleged that the confrontation occurred while he was carrying out his professional duties covering Nigeria’s 65th Independent Anniversary Celebration Day held in Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofarmata.

“I was doing my work as a cameraman, recording activities at the anniversary like every other journalist present,” Adamu said. “Suddenly, Rogo approached me, pushed me to the ground and started insulting me publicly in front of government officials and fellow journalists.”

Adamu described the experience as embarrassing and distressing, particularly because it happened in a public setting during a major state-linked cultural event.

“It was shocking. I did not provoke him. I was simply performing my lawful assignment. Being pushed and insulted in that manner was humiliating,” he added.

Witnesses at the venue said the confrontation drew attention due to the number of dignitaries and media personnel present.

“This is not the first time something like this has happened. During the Independence Day celebration at Sani Abacha Stadium, he also insulted and attacked me while I was working, whenever I remembered the incident I instantly got angry,” Adamu claimed.

The development has generated concern within media circles in Kano, particularly following an earlier complaint filed by journalist Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai, who also allegedly was insulted by Mr. Rogo.

As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Rogo has not issued a public statement responding to the allegations. The Kano State Government has also not released an official comment on the matter.

Media stakeholders say the situation underscores the need for professionalism and mutual respect between public officials and journalists, especially during official events covered by the press.

The matter remains under public attention as calls grow for clarification and possible resolution.
