The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has urged officers to maintain professionalism in the discharge of their duties and to refrain from sharing unverified information about the Service on social media.
CGC Adeniyi made this statement while addressing Officers of the Zonal Office, Area 1 Command, Eastern Marine Command and the Customs Police Unit in Zone ‘C’ when he embarked on an official visit to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024.
He cautioned that the Service is using technological intelligence to track those who violate this rule.
He stated that the Service has enhanced its capabilities in technology and information gathering, adding that “all our operations and duties are being fully automated, so any officer found wanting will be brought to book.”
The CGC further highlighted the dangers of disseminating unverified information on social media platforms, saying, “The Customs Intelligence Unit has been properly briefed to look into such actions, and the Unit has already swung into action to identify violators of the rule.”
On her part, the Acting Assistant Provost Marshal, Customs Police Unit Zone ‘C’, Chief Superintendent of Customs Funere William-Ebi, thanked the CGC for visiting the Unit and assured him of her strong commitment to upholding the Service’s rules and regulations.
CSC William-Ebi, who commended the CGC’s dedication to enhancing the efficiency of the Service, also presented a souvenir to him as part of her gesture to mark his visit to the Unit as a remarkable and historic one.
The Comptroller-General of Customs then proceeded with his official visit to the Eastern Marine Command, where he addressed Customs and Immigration officers attached to the Command.
He encouraged them to embrace inter-agency collaboration among all the agencies, emphasizing that collaboration is a key element of his administration’s policy thrust.
In response, Comptroller of Immigration Service FU Nwanneka, who described the CGC’s visit as “an outstanding move to foster collaboration,” thanked him for including them in his visit.
