CGC Adeniyi: Celebrating Birthday with Huge Milestones, Team Formation & Attracting Pres. Tinubu’s Tribute

Date:

Birthdays are not merely markers of age; they are milestones that celebrate life’s accomplishments and promise future triumphs. For Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, his birthday in 2025 has become a national occasion to honour his transformative leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The day was marked by a heartfelt tribute from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a testament to the profound impact of his reforms and vision.

Though CGC Adeniyi is not inclined toward grand birthday celebrations, I felt compelled to organise a small party and prayer session in his honour at my home. The gathering was a heartfelt gesture to thank God for blessing our beloved leader with a life of purpose and remarkable achievements.

President Tinubu’s Tribute to a Visionary Leader

In a congratulatory message that gained widespread attention across mainstream and online platforms, President Tinubu eloquently encapsulated the essence of CGC Adeniyi’s leadership, describing him as a transformative force whose efforts have revitalised the NCS and strengthened Nigeria’s economic stability. What captivates me the most in his attestation are these words:

“Your transformative leadership and unwavering patriotism have set a new benchmark for excellence in public service. Your achievements reflect the resilience and dedication required to build a greater Nigeria.” President Tinubu noted.

This endorsement from the nation’s highest office highlights the CGC’s extraordinary ability to harmonise the operations of the Nigeria Customs Service with the overarching priorities of national development. It accentuates his strategic leadership in transforming the Service into a pivotal force, not only in revenue generation but also in safeguarding the country’s economic stability and security. Such recognition solidifies the NCS’s reputation as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s progress, driven by a visionary leader committed to excellence and innovation.

A Historic Press Conference That Defined Leadership

On Tuesday, 14th January 2025, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, renowned for his professionalism, eloquence, and approachable leadership style, hosted a press conference at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja. While the primary focus was to review the Service’s remarkable achievements in 2024, the event also served as a masterclass in effective communication.

With clarity and precision, CGC Adeniyi engaged the media, ensuring no detail was left unexplained. His warm demeanour and deep respect for the press created an atmosphere of collaboration and mutual respect, highlighting his unwavering belief in the indispensable role of journalism in driving national progress.

True to his reputation, CGC Adeniyi once again demonstrated why he is held in such high regard—he simply does not DISAPPOINT!

CGC Adeniyi used the platform to recount the Service’s record-breaking achievements in 2024 while laying out an ambitious vision for 2025. His golden words resonated with confidence, reflecting the passion and commitment that have become synonymous with his tenure—and plans.

Team Formation: Building a Legacy of Excellence

A major highlight of CGC Adeniyi’s leadership is his knack for assembling dynamic teams. During the press conference, he announced the decoration of new management team members and senior officers. These appointments, he explained, are part of a broader strategy to inject fresh energy into the Service and foster loyalty and innovation among officers.

“We prioritise selecting team members who are not only highly skilled but also deeply committed to our shared mission. Together, we aim to exceed expectations and surprise the nation with even greater achievements. Adeniyi remarked.

This emphasis on team formation has not only accelerated organisational progress but has also cultivated a culture of excellence and unity within the NCS, earning him respect from his subordinates and stakeholders alike.

Transforming Welfare and Morale
Beyond operational milestones, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s leadership is distinguished by its extraordinary commitment to the welfare of Customs officers. Under his administration, investments in healthcare, safety, and working conditions have tripled, fostering an environment where officers feel genuinely valued, motivated, and empowered to perform at their best.

Notably, CGC Adeniyi’s sense of responsibility extends far beyond the confines of the Service. His advocacy for community social responsibility resonates deeply with the public, inspiring not just his officers but also ordinary citizens to embrace collective efforts for societal betterment. This holistic approach to leadership underscores his vision of an institution that thrives not only within but also contributes meaningfully to the nation’s broader development.

What stood out to me again during the 2025 press conference, particularly regarding the welfare of officers and men of the Service, was CGC Adeniyi’s emphatic declaration: “In 2024, we prioritised the welfare of our officers like never before,” he stated with conviction. “From improved healthcare facilities to advanced training and the provision of modern protective equipment, we are building a workforce that is not only confident and efficient but also prepared to meet the challenges of the future.”

These initiatives have not only enhanced morale but also improved operational efficiency, reinforcing the NCS’s reputation as a model agency in public service.

The ‘BOdogwu’ Innovation: A Revenue Game-Changer Developed By Customs Personnel

CGC Adeniyi’s tenure has been unanimously and undeniably marked by groundbreaking initiatives, chief among them the Trade Modernisation Project known as ‘Odogwu.’ This advanced technology, deployed in late 2024, has revolutionised revenue collection, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

The system was instrumental in the NCS exceeding its ₦5.07 trillion target for 2024, collecting an unprecedented ₦6.1 trillion. With full integration planned for 2025, Adeniyi expressed confidence in meeting the ₦8 trillion target set by the federal government.

Celebrating a Reformative Leader
As CGC Adeniyi marks another year, his birthday is more than a personal milestone; it is a celebration of his legacy of transformation. From breaking revenue records to prioritising welfare, from modernising operations to fostering team unity, his leadership has set a gold standard in public service.

President Tinubu’s tribute reflects the nation’s gratitude for Adeniyi’s unwavering dedication to excellence. As the NCS embarks on another year under his guidance, Nigerians eagerly anticipate the milestones yet to be achieved.

Happy birthday to Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi—a visionary leader whose impact transcends borders, inspiring a brighter future for Nigeria.
