The Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Group, Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, was conferred with the Fellowship of the Capital Market Academics of Nigeria (CMAN) at the organisation’s Fellowship Lecture and Investiture Ceremony held on Monday, 9th December 2024, at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) headquarters in Abuja.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Dr. Kwairanga described the fellowship award as a testament to the impactful work being done by the NGX Group and the broader capital market community.
“This award serves as motivation for us to do more to move the capital market towards achieving its potential as a critical driver of economic development and financial inclusion.” He said.
Dr. Kwairanga praised the calibre of his fellow honourees, including former SEC Directors General, Dr. Ndanusa and Mallam Lamido Yuguda, whom he described as mentors.
Other awardees included Senators Osita and Abiru, Honourable Suleiman Bob, and renowned academics like Professors Mamman and Mainoma, who have significantly contributed to Nigeria’s capital market.
Speaking further, Dr. Kwairanga also commended CMAN for recognising excellence across various sectors of the financial ecosystem.
He also acknowledged the support and contributions of key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the SEC, Malam Mairiga Aliyu Katuka; SEC Executive Commissioner Legal, Frana Chukwuogor; Victor Muruako, Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission; Dr. Ibrahim Natagwandu, Special Adviser to the President on Public Debt; and Professor Usman Shu’aib of the CBN Financial Regulation Advisory Council of Experts.
Dr. Kwairanga lauded CMAN as a young but impactful body, crediting its success to the dedication and expertise of its members, particularly its President, Professor Uche Uwaleke, whom he described as a passionate advocate for the capital market.
He urged the association to continue its vital work in documentation, research, and market guidance, which he identified as essential for the sustained growth of Nigeria’s financial sector.
The event reaffirmed CMAN’s commitment to advancing knowledge and excellence within the capital market, with attendees emphasising the importance of collaboration among academics, regulators, and market operators to drive the sector’s development.
