The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Port Harcourt Area I Command, has commissioned a newly renovated Staff Clinic and Quarter Guard at its Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, reaffirming the Service’s commitment to staff welfare, occupational health, safety, and operational efficiency.
The commissioning ceremony, which held on Thursday, 29 January 2026, was disclosed in a statement by the Assistant Superintendent of Customs I and Public Relations Officer of the Command, Barilule Aanee, who said the project reflects the Service’s broader policy of translating welfare commitments into practical infrastructure improvements.
Senior officers of the Service attended the event, led by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Inspection and Investigation, DCG Timi Bomodi, alongside the Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Kamal Mohammed.
Others present were Comptrollers of Customs from formations across Zone C, heads and representatives of sister security agencies, as well as officers and men of the Service, were also present.
In her welcome address, the Customs Area Controller, Port Harcourt Area I Command, Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, said the project was necessitated by the critical role of staff health and safety in effective service delivery.
She explained that upon assuming duty in September 2025, the Staff Clinic was found to be in a dilapidated condition, requiring urgent intervention.
Comptroller Atuluku outlined the scope of the rehabilitation works, which included the restoration and connection of electricity, repainting of the facility, replacement of window blinds, floor tiling, repairs to key medical bays, comprehensive restocking of the pharmacy, and other upgrades aimed at improving functionality and the quality of healthcare services.
She acknowledged the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and members of the Management Team for providing purposeful leadership, policy direction, and consistent support for welfare-focused and infrastructure development initiatives across the Service, noting that such backing made the successful completion of the project possible.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone C, ACG Kamal Mohammed, described the renovated clinic as a strategic asset that will boost productivity, morale, and institutional efficiency.
He commended the Port Harcourt Area I Command for its vision, teamwork, and strict adherence to established Service standards in executing the project.
The upgraded Staff Clinic is expected to serve officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service, while also supporting inter-agency cooperation by providing access to sister security agencies and stakeholders within the port community.
Meanwhile, the commissioning of the clinic and Quarter Guard emphasised the Service’s continued focus on strengthening operational infrastructure and safeguarding the wellbeing of its workforce.
