In a significant development, the Kano Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported an impressive revenue generation of N6.9 billion for the month of November.
Customs Comptroller, Controller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, revealed this noteworthy achievement during a recent telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.
The geographical scope of the Kano Area Command encompasses both Kano and Jigawa states, critical regions where Nigeria shares its borders with Niger Republic.
Controller Chana underscored the multifaceted efforts undertaken by the command to uphold security and counter smuggling activities effectively.
The array of confiscated items, including 2,817 bags of foreign rice, 1,428 pieces of used tires, 250 Jerry cans of 25-litre vegetable oil, and 690 cartoons of foreign soap, vividly illustrates the command’s commitment to curbing illicit trade.
Additional seized items comprise 429 bales of second-hand clothes, 1,226 packages of royal tramadol, 470 blocks of compressed Indian hemp, and 1,530 cartons of foreign spaghetti.
Chana emphasized the implementation of heightened security measures to combat smuggling, with officers strategically positioned to address illegal activities.
He further detailed the deployment of officers to border posts in Maigatari and Jeke outstations to intensify efforts against smugglers.
Chana urged traditional rulers, stakeholders, and youths in border communities to support the fight against smuggling by providing intelligence information.
He stressed the commitment to making the command’s area a challenging zone for smugglers, with competent officers stationed at identified illegal routes for arrests and prosecution.
Additionally, he called for stakeholder support in promoting awareness about the adverse effects of smuggling on the nation’s economy and encouraging the export of local goods.
