The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced progress in its ongoing recruitment exercise, disclosing that 286,697 applicants have been shortlisted for the next stage of the process.
According to a statement made available to newsmen and signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the recruitment began with an official advertisement published in national newspapers on December 27, 2024, with 3,927 vacancies declared across the Superintendent, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
Maiwada revealed that a total of 573,523 applications were received during the first phase of the exercise, out of which 286,697 candidates were invited to proceed to the second stage.
The next round, according to him, will hold between September 14 and 21, 2025, through an online Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The NPRO explained that the CBT reflects the Service’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and fairness in the recruitment process.
Candidates are expected to take the test from any location with reliable internet access, provided they use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen display, as the application is not mobile-enabled.
He added that facial verification would be carried out during login, urging candidates to maintain a neat appearance.
He further cautioned that the CBT system is sensitive to noise and body movement, warning that excessive distractions, whispering, or attempts to switch between windows could result in automatic logout or outright disqualification.
“To ensure adequate preparation, the Service has also scheduled a mandatory pre-test exercise two days before the actual CBT. Two separate links will be sent to all shortlisted applicants, one for the pre-test and another for the examination proper.” AC Maiwada said.
He clarified that candidates applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will be required to undertake an additional CBT in the next phase, while those in the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will not.
The statement reaffirmed that the recruitment process remains merit-driven and transparent, adding, “Successful candidates will be informed of subsequent phases through official communication channels, as the Service emphasised that it will not demand any payment nor conduct recruitment activities on social media platforms.”
