…As Ag. CAC Kano/Jigawa Area Command Embarks on Familiarisation Visit to Kano Free Trade Zone
The Acting Customs Area Controller, Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman Adamu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to trade facilitation and inter-agency cooperation during a working visit to the Kano Free Trade Zone (KFTZ) on Monday, 2 February 2026.
The visit, according to a press statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, by the Command Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Tahir Balarabe, formed part of the Area Controller’s familiarisation tour across the Command’s Area of Responsibility.
Speaking during the visit, DC Adamu said the Command would continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth operations within the Free Trade Zone, in line with the Comptroller-General of Customs’ policy thrust of Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation.
He said the Command remained committed to reviewing its procedures in line with existing laws to improve efficiency, strengthen compliance and support legitimate trade, while maintaining its responsibility to safeguard national security.
Responding, the Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Bassey Richard, described Kano as a long-established centre of commerce and trade, noting that the Free Trade Zone plays a critical role in attracting investment and supporting economic activities in the region.
Richard commended the Kano/Jigawa Area Command for what he described as a cordial and professional working relationship, adding that sustained cooperation between NEPZA and the Nigeria Customs Service was necessary to ensure orderly operations and continued growth within the Zone.
During the visit, the Ag. Area Controller toured several enterprises operating within the Free Trade Zone, where he expressed appreciation for the level of cooperation received and assured operators of the Command’s support in line with applicable regulations.
The visit ended with an interactive session with Customs officers and men deployed within the Zone, during which DC Adamu commended their commitment and urged them to remain disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.
