…As Customs Officers Participate In 7-Months NIPSS’ Senior Executive Course
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Thursday 5th September, 2024, re-announced the transformative roles that digital technologies play in modernizing its operations in Nigeria, highlighting the potential move to improve trade facilitation, boost efficiency, and enhance risk management.
This was made known by the Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs Sulaiman Bomai, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, while delivering a paper presentation at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.
Continuing his paper presentation titled: “Digital Economy and Nigeria Customs Operations: Issues, Challenges, and Prospects.” before the participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 46, 2024, DCG Bomai outlined clear paths for the NCS in the digital era, and enjoined other agencies to ensure Nigeria remains competitive in the global trade environment.
He, however, spoke about the integration of automation, electronic payment systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) in Customs processes, which according to him, has improved trade facilitation, boost Service’s efficiency, and enhanced risk management.
While commending the progress made by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, DCG Bomai also emphasized that the achievements of the NCS officers at NIPSS, stating that “the officers should serve as a model for other personnel in the Service.”
He elaborated that “An important feature of the NCS’s presence at NIPSS was the active involvement of its senior officers enrolled in the course. Among them was Comptroller Omale, whose contributions to discussions were described as exemplary.”
His performance during the course, according to him, has earned him a role as rapporteur, saddledvwith the responsibility of documenting key points from the sessions, emphasizing that “the achievements of the Customs officers at NIPSS should serve as a model for other personnel in the Service.”
It was learnt that Comptroller Omale’s appointment as rapporteur and his leadership in course deliberations were praised by both his peers and the institute’s leadership, highlighting the significant impact of the NCS’s participation at the event.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, the DCG Bomai, expressed his gratitude to NIPSS for rendering the opportunity to officers to participate in the Senior Executive Course and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to enhance their partnership.
