Group Accuses Federal High Court Judge of Judicial Recklessness… Threatens to File a Petition
A non governmental organization, Democracy Working Group, has Condemned what they described as the ‘Incessant Judicial Recklessness’ by the Federal High Court Judges in Kano Division, particularly Justice Simon Amobeda.
The Group threatened to mobilize 1,000 Organizations across Nigeria to file a petition against Amobeda to checkmate his activities.
The Group in a statement jointly signed and issued by the Convener Dr Vincent Okpara Innocent and Dr. Idris. Mohammed Co- Convener, stated that their attention has been drawn to the Judgement delivered by Justice Amobeda which sacked the Chairman and five members of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) three days before the Local Government Councils Election, scheduled to take place next coming Saturday.
The statement read in part ” Our attention has been drawn to the Judgments delivered by Justice Simon Amobeda, a Federal High Court Judge sitting in Kano, which unceremoniously sacked the Chairman and five members of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), barely three days to the date for the conduct of the Local Government Councils Elections.”
The statement continued,” It is our firm belief that, every civilized democracy which respects the will of the people, courts wouldn’t have reduced themselves to temples of creating confusion, disharmony the, social disunity and disorder, as the essence of their existence on promoting social and legal justice for the people has been woefully defeated. “
The alleged that, Federal Courts in Kano have bad motives on the peace and security of Kano State.” It is clear that the Federal High Courts in Kano, are on a Special mission to destabilize the peace and security of the state. Every responsible person would wonder how could a competent court of law would compromise the interests and feelings of over 20 million People of Kano State, by truncating a long time plan to conduct the Local Government Councils Elections, bearing in mind the deadline of the Supreme Court to all states of the Federation”. the statement added.
The Group therefore promised to take proper and democratic actions against the Judge and the Judgment he delivered.
Recalled that a Federal High Court in Kano presided by Hon Justice Simon Amobeda sacked the Chairman of KANSIEC Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi and five members of the Commission and further ordered INEC and Security Agencies to not participate in the up coming Local Government Election, decision that sparked anger among government officials and members of Kano ruling party, NNPP.
