Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on NTA AM Sports on Tuesday morning, Honourable Amadu, who represents Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, attributed his optimism to the quality of Nigerian players and their impressive performances in Europe.
Reacting to the AFCON group stage draw held on Monday night in Morocco, he cautioned the team against complacency.
“Yes, the group looks simple, but the players must be careful not to assume victory before stepping onto the pitch. Overconfidence can be dangerous in football, especially in a tournament like AFCON,” he stated.
He further urged the team to approach the competition with determination, adding, “No doubt, we have the talents, but they must play like wounded lions to qualify from the group and reach the final.”
“If they play as a team, stay mentally and physically prepared, and are determined to go for gold, then the trophy is ours, Insha’Allah,” he added.
Honourable Amadu also called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure adequate preparations for the tournament, stressing that proper planning would ease the team’s path to victory.
He noted that Nigeria’s near triumph at the last AFCON and back-to-back wins of the African Player of the Year award by Nigerian players demonstrate the team’s potential to clinch the title in Morocco.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, with their opening match set against Tanzania.
