Hoodlums Attack Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano Amidst Nationwide Protests
Chaos erupted at Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano on Thursday as hoodlums infiltrated the city Campus at Kofar Nassarawa amid ongoing nationwide protests. The protests, fueled by widespread hunger, economic instability, and security challenges, have spread across Nigeria, leading to unrest in various states.
According to a statement issued by the Head, Public relation Unit of the University Abubakar Ibrahim, the city campus of the university became a target for the protesters, who breached the premises, causing significant damage. Several valuable materials within the campus were destroyed, and the attackers also made away with motorcycles belonging to the university’s security guards.
In a further display of lawlessness, car batteries were stolen from numerous vehicles parked on the university grounds.
According to eyewitnesses, the on-duty security personnel and staff from the Maintenance unit immediately notified the university management of the unfolding situation.
The university’s Acting Director of Security, Bala Lawan Kofar Na’isa, played an important role in mitigating the impact of the invasion by informing the Police. The swift response by the police force was crucial in dispersing the intruders and preventing further damage. The police intervention, however, came after the hoodlums had already inflicted considerable harm.
In response to the attack, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, the Vice Chancellor of Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, called on the university’s staff, particularly those on special duties, to remain vigilant and proactive during this period of unrest.
He urged them to prioritize the safety and security of the university’s facilities and personnel.
Professor Kurawa also expressed his concerns over the ongoing protests and the broader issues plaguing the nation. He prayed for a return to peace and normalcy in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.
