Kano State Government Bans Private Hisbah, Orders the Arrest of Perpetrators
The Kano State Government has banned the operation of a privately run Hisbah in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this known during an emergency press briefing on Friday night.
The commissioner stated that the directive is contained in an official Executive order signed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He read the governor’s order, saying: “As the Governor of Kano State, whom the Constitution has empowered to oversee and ensure the security of the people of Kano, I hereby ban a group formed by some unpatriotic individuals called ‘Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah’, considering that we already have the Hisbah Board which operates in accordance with the law.”
Comrade Waiya added that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf directed all security agencies, the police and the Civil Defence Corps to arrest anyone who disobeys this order and prosecute them.
“We direct all security agencies to conduct investigations to identify those involved in establishing this so-called private ‘Hisbah Fisabilillah’.
Furthermore, all ongoing plans to recruit members and inaugurate this illegal structure must stop immediately,” the commissioner said.
It will be recalled that last week, former Kano State Governor Dr.
Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, through the former Commander-General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina, launched an initiative under the name Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah as a private organisation.
The move sparked controversy in the state, as many linked it to political motives.
All eyes are now on what will follow this new directive from the Kano State Government.
