The State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, CN, on Friday, bagged the prestigious ‘Sir Ahmadu Bello Platinum Leadership Award’ by Northern
Youth Association of Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by the Ag. Public Relations Office of the Agency in Kano Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, ASN II, the Commander was chosen by the association in view of his ‘outstanding contributions to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.’
The award, which is peculiar to Northern Heroes only, also designated Abubakar Idris Ahmad, CN, as “Jakadan Matasan Arewa/Icon of Nation Building” to appreciate his unwavering commitment and exemplary leadership in combating the drug menace in Kano.
Conferring the award on the State Commander at his office in Kano, president of the association, Comrade Godiya Adams, applauded the State Commander for setting good examples in the fight against drug abuse and suppressing drug trafficking across through strategic operations and intelligence gathering.
The president also recalled how the command had succeeded in disrupting drug supply chains, dismantling criminal networks, and seizing substantial quantities of illicit drugs, which according to him, has assisted immensely in protecting the overall security and wellbeing of the citizenry.
The statement also highlighted that the Commander has spearheaded numerous awareness campaigns, educational programs, and counseling sessions to address the root causes of drug addiction through prioritizing
community engagement and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
“His relentless pursuit of justice,
combined with his compassionate approach, has earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, the community, and the nation at large. In receiving this prestigious recognition, the State Commander acknowledges the
collective effort of his team, the unwavering support of the NDLEA hierarchy, and the commitment of the government in combating drug abuse and trafficking in the state.” the statement said.
