Nigeria Ranks 106 out of 134 Countries on Global Network Readiness Index
Nigeria has been ranked 106 among 134 countries all over the world on Global Network Readiness Index (NRI) for the year 2023.
This was disclosed by the Executive Director, Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) Yunusa Zakari Ya’u in a press conference held on Friday.
According to Mr Ya’u, the NRI is compiled annually by the Portulans Institute on the basis of robust collection of data along four segments but closely linked pillars.
Last year, Nigeria was ranked 109 out of 131 countries with a composite score of 36.67 points.
This year even though moved from 109 to 106, Nigeria performed poorly compared to other African countries who are far above, countries like Kenya, South Africa, and Mauritius are ranked 70, 74 and 76.
Looking at the four pillars, Nigeria ranked 88 in Technology which is the best performance, on people pillar it was ranked number 99, 115 in Governance pillar and 118 for the impact Pillar.
Mr Zakari Ya’u recommended that somethings need to be done which will help in improving the score.
” we at the CITAD have some recommendations which we think if followed will improve our score and ranking, Nigeria should license a new tier of last mile connectivity provide to address the gaps, the USPF was set up as a bridging mechanism to address gaps in access and affordability, and Nigeria should implement strategies to embrace circular economy in the digital technology sector”.
