Ramadan Fair: KACCIMA, Kano Govt Partner to Cushion Economic Hardship
The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) on Sunday inaugurated its 2026 Ramadan Fair at the Trade Fair Complex, Kano, with a colourful and spiritually uplifting ceremony attended by government officials, traditional rulers, religious scholars, and members of the business community.
The Fair, organised in collaboration with the Kano State Government through the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the Kano Markets Chairman Forum Association (KAMCHAFA), is aimed at providing essential commodities at affordable prices while supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) during the holy month of Ramadan.
Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event, the Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Goni Shehu Wada Sagagi, described the Ramadan Fair as a timely intervention in view of current economic realities.
He said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to protecting consumers and supporting traders during a sacred period marked by compassion and sacrifice.
“The true essence of Ramadan is not only in fasting but in demonstrating kindness, honesty, and social responsibility. Let our markets reflect these noble values,” the Commissioner stated, urging traders to maintain fair pricing and empathy.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended the President of KACCIMA, Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma, for revitalising the Chamber and restoring public confidence through impactful programmes such as the Ramadan Fair.
He called on market leaders to promote transparency, discipline, and stability in business operations to sustain economic growth.
Representing the Emir of Kano, the Danmalikin Kano and District Head of Rimingado, Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, advised traders to uphold integrity and fairness in all commercial dealings, noting that honest wealth attracts blessings while exploitation erodes both spiritual and social value.
In a lecture at the event, Sheikh Kamalu Inuwa, Chief Imam of Hidaya Friday Mosque, Gandu Layout, urged traders to shun cheating, hoarding, forgery, and other dishonest practices.
He stressed that Islam encourages lawful trade but strictly forbids usury, exploitation, and fraud.
He reminded participants that Ramadan is not only a period of fasting but also a season for purifying wealth through lawful earnings and ethical transactions.
In his welcome remarks, KACCIMA President, Ambassador Usman Hassan Darma, reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to ethical commerce, consumer protection, and enterprise development, describing the Fair as both an economic intervention and a moral responsibility.
The 2026 Ramadan Fair will run throughout the fasting period, offering food items, household goods, and locally manufactured products at competitive prices.
