We Won’t Tolerate Journalists Persecution and Intimidation ~ ASKOJ
The Association of Kano Online Journalists has Condemned what it called Persecution of its members by the state Commissioner of Information Ibrahim Waiya.
In a statement issued by its Chairman Yakubu Salisu, ASKOJ says one of it’s members Mal Buhari Abba was arrested by the Police, kano command under the instructions of Ibrahim Waiya.
ASKOJ in the statement added that, it’s disheartening that Waiya who has benefited immensely from free press during his days at the Civil society will now resort to such act without exploring alternatives of disputes settlement with the Journalists.
ASKOJ says, the Commissioner who is using police officers from kano Police Command SCID has been on the tails of the said Journalist since Saturday the 22nd March 2025 and was held on 24th.
The association Condemned with strongest term what it referred as blatant act of intimidation of press freedom which clearly contrdicts Freedom of Press as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
It therefore urged kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to intervene and halt all forms of Persecution against Journalists in Kano.
