What Kwankwaso Did in 2014 for His Personal Interest, We Did in 2026 for the Interest of Kano: Kano State Government

The Kano State Government has responded to allegations by some quarters linking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with betrayal.

Speaking during a live interview with media organisations in kano and monitored by DAILYFEEDS, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said that political defection is not a new phenomenon, noting that in 2014 Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  under which he was elected to the then newly formed APC.

The Commissioner explained that the only difference is that while Kwankwaso at the time considered his personal political future, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf considered the future of Kano State and its people.

“There is injustice in associating a change of political party with betrayal,” he said.

According to him, across Nigeria there is hardly any major politician who has not at one time defected from one party to another, as the Nigerian Constitution grants every citizen the right to change political parties if they are not satisfied with developments within their current party.

Comrade Abdullahi Waiya also called on former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to cross over to the APC, which he described as a party without internal crises, in order to move Kano State to the next level.
